Kanchanaburi Thailand | Kanchanaburi hotel | River Kwai | Tiger temple Kanchanaburi
The site of the Bridge over the River Kwai lies 130km (80 miles) west of Bangkok and is also the administrative centre of Kanchanaburi province, noted for its extraordinary scenic beauty. The town stands at the junction of the Kwai Noi and Kwai Yai, twin rivers which join to the form the Mae Klong. Upstream, the wooded valleys of both the Kwai Noi and Kwai Yai are literally scattered with caves, waterfalls and scenic sports. The town and the bridge can be seen on a day trip from Bangkok, but Kanchanaburi's bigger draws are its river resort hotels and river rafts which offer the best way to appreciate exceptionally lovely natural settings.

Major sights
- War cemeteries: Kanchanaburi War Cemetery on Saeng Chuto Road contains the remains of 6982 PoWs who died during the construction of the Death Railway. A further 1750 graves are at the Chong-kai Cemetery, on the opposite bank of the river southwest of town.
- JEATH War Museum: On Pak Phraek Road near the entrance to Wat Chumphon, this small museum, a reconstruction of a PoW camp, poignantly documents the horrors endured by the prisoners. Open daily 08:30-16-30.
- Wat Tham Mangkhon Thong: Approximately 4km southwest of town, the ‘Cave Temple of the Golden Dragon', famous for its nuns who meditate floating on their backs in a pool, is worth visiting for its hilltop cave temple reached via a long, steep flight of steps.
- Ban Keo Neolithic Museum: This small museum 35 km west of Kanchanaburi town contains Neolithic remains and utensils first unearthed at the site by Dutch PoW working on the Death Railway. Open Wed-Sun 09:00-16:00

- Erawan National Park: Located in the valley of the Kwai Yai 72 km (45 miles) to the north, this attractive slice of countryside is accessible by forest trail and has series of small waterfalls as its focal point. Buses for the 90 min journey to the park depart from Kanchanaburi town every 50 min 08:00-16:00.
- Sai Yok Noi and Sai Yok Yai Waterfalls: Set in the Kwai Noi valley, these waterfalls are more impressive than those at Erawan. Sai Yok Noi lies just beyond Nam Tok railway station, about 77km northwest of Kanchanaburi town. Sai Yok Yai has the added attractions of Kaeng Lawa Cave and can be reached by boat, a two and a half hours journey upstream from Pak-Saeng Pier.
Tiger Temple, or Wat Pha Luang Ta Bua, is a Buddhist temple in Western Thailand which keeps numerous animals, among them several tigers that can be petted by visitors. Walking with tigers is unique attractions that you can see there.
